The esports training platform starts a three-year contract with after-school programs this January

Rockville, MD — Today Game Gym, an esports training platform dedicated to healthy youth gaming, is excited to announce a three-year commitment with Montgomery County, Maryland to provide after-school esports enrichment. The initiative kicks off in January through the county’s Excel Beyond the Bell program.

Montgomery County Recreation’s Excel Beyond the Bell is a comprehensive, high-quality after-school program that provides opportunities for academic and recreational enrichment, in an environment that stimulates learning and harnesses the power of play. This program has been designed to remove barriers to participation and promote pathways to student success.

Game Gym will teach students about playing with a purpose, teamwork, communication, and leadership while also providing a fun and healthy gaming environment. All participating students are eligible to receive a free subscription to the Game Gym esports training app as part of the program.

“Our engagement with Recreation deepens Game Gym’s commitment to Montgomery County, and we’re excited to continue providing a healthy esports experience for MCPS students,” Game Gym CEO Josh Hafkin said.

Game Gym has been committed to Montgomery County for years. Hafkin is a member of the MCPS Professional Advisory Committee, and Game Gym has partnered with Blake and Quince Orchard’s game design programs for the last two school years. Students competing in the Montgomery County Esports League get free access to Game Gym’s app as part of their training for the season.

Game Gym also provides training for middle school teachers interested in serving as the coach or faculty advisor for the school’s esports teams, and earlier this fall, Game Gym partnered with MCPS to launch the Montgomery County Esports League. The MCEL is Montgomery County’s first foray into competitive esports, and it features ten high schools competing in Rocket League.

Game Gym is actively working with other school districts in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC to offer similar K-12 programs throughout the region.
