New! Certified After School Esports Instructor ​(paid position)

Game Gym is looking to hire 4 instructors by November 17, 2023!

About the position: Game Gym has current in-person openings for part-time esports instructors for Excel Beyond the Bell, an after-school enrichment program located at elementary schools within the Montgomery County, Maryland Public School System (MCPS). The position includes opportunities to provide esports academic enrichment and video game coaching of in-game knowledge and skills. This position requires knowledge of competitive esports. Game Gym strives to make sure gamers are having fun while learning in-game skills and life lessons by gaming with a purpose! 

The Program Instructor will:

  • Lead instruction of the Excel Beyond the Bell program using Game Gym approved curriculum and other resources provided by Game Gym
  • Foster a love and passion for esports
  • Working with students in grades 3-5 to understand key concepts and skills of different esports
  • Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for all students

Qualifications:

  • Must have knowledge of Super Smash Brothers and Rocket League
  • Knowledge in Minecraft and E for everyone games a plus
  • Must have own means of transportation (required)
  • Must be able to transport gaming equipment (required)
  • Must be at least 18 years of age (required)
  • Local/live within MCPS school boundaries
  • Experience working with children ages 9-11 (grades 3-5)
  • Knowledge of technology: Computer set-ups and Nintendo Switches
  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  • Must pass a Background Check, Finger Prints, and complete Child Abuse Training
  • Complete Game Gym Coach Certification Training prior to EBTB sessions starting
  • Multi-lingual a plus!

Schedule:

  • Must be available during program operations Monday through Friday between 3:00 pm-6:30pm
  • 6 to 12 hours per week between 1 or 2 locations
  • Must be available for whole in-person session:
  • January 8th, 2024 through March 22nd, 2024 and April 8th, 2024 through May 31, 2024
  • Attendance at occasional special events (Welcome night, showcase nights, etc)

Potential Locations: All schools are within Montgomery County, MD: from Gaithersburg to Silver Spring. 

Covid-19 requirements: Game Gym requires staff to submit proof of Covid-19 vaccination or documentation of a medical exemption.

Game Gym Requirements: Here at the Game Gym, Communication is a major key to success. Our mission is to provide all opportunities where you can learn and grow your experiences. As a Game Gym team member, we expect you to respond timely to DM in the discord and emails, meet any deadlines from your Manager, reliable and dependable. We also expect our staff to participate as often as they can in our weekly staff Zoom meeting which usually 20-30 minutes.
