This pilot program deepens NVCC’s commitment to expanding esports opportunities for thousands of students

FAIRFAX, Va., January 8, 2024–  Game Gym, an esports education platform and the official esports training partner of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC), and NVCC are today announcing a pilot program to make structured esports training and practice available to all NVCC students for free. All NVCC students will have full access to Game Gym’s content library and structured workouts for the spring semester.

The program comes as NVCC looks to expand its esports offerings. Game Gym offers hundreds of workouts from certified coaches on its training app providing structured gaming practices as opposed to gamers trying to improve their skills on their own.

“This partnership with Game Gym will provide NVCC students an invaluable opportunity to improve their gaming skills in a structured way,” CJ Jackson, Associate Director of College Recreation and Intramurals and Esports Director, said. “Improved gaming means improved critical thinking, teamwork, organization, and communication skills, all areas NVCC is committed to promoting in our students.”

Northern Virginia Community College is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference, the region’s collegiate esports league founded and managed by Game Gym. Students get the chance to compete in two seasons a year in League of Legends, Overwatch 2, Rocket League, and VALORANT.

In addition to free access to the Game Gym app, NVCC students also can purchase discounted private training sessions with Game Gym coaches as they prepare to try out for the NVCC esports teams.
