Memberships

Our team is broken up into two age groups, 10-13 and 14-18. Members are not required to compete, but we do encourage all of our members to give competition a try.

13 and under

Our younger members will be focused on learning the basics of the games. League of Legends and Super Smash Bros 4 are our two pillars, but members are welcome to bounce around from game to game until they find the game that suits them.  We put an emphasis on learning the games, but also on how to balance life and gaming.

14 and up

Our older members are focused on working on skills that will help them exceed at local and national tournaments. In addition to preparing for competition, our older members are introduced to the ecosystem of esports and gaming so that they can explore their passions. The older members are able to compete in any game of their choice. Regardless of the game, we can help you prepare to compete.

Program Structure

Our curriculum is based on a seasonal structure: Summer, Fall, and Spring. Our staff will plan a tournament or join forces with a local event to assure that each game has an end of season competition or “summit.” For Smash, we’ve created the FLEX and SUPER FLEX events and for Overwatch and League of Legends, we’ve created IGNITE. These summits are what we work toward throughout the season.

Class Structure

Members train twice a week for an hour and a half. Each class is built around a goal or mastering a specific strategy or skill.

Games

Super Smash Bros

Smash Bros or SSB is a fantastic introductory esport and a fun game for all ages. SSB features familiar characters like Mario, Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and others from all over the gaming universe. The goal of SSB is to knock your opponents off the platform and be the last character remaining on the stage. Smash Bros is a fun game to play, but tough to master. It is our goal to teach our members not just the moves, but the deeper level, strategic thinking that can help them master Smash Bros and other subjects. We are focused on teaching our members “how to learn”, so they can then take those skills and apply them to any avenue they choose to pursue.

Overwatch

Overwatch is a 6v6 team-based objective-based, multiplayer shooter (but don’t worry, it isn’t the bloody type). In Overwatch, heroes from around the globe team up together to complete different objectives. Whether the objective is to escort a payload along a path or hold down an area on the map, players must communicate and work together to win. Overwatch is a game of strategy and teamwork where every member plays an integral role in the team’s success.

With the creation of the Overwatch League, the ecosystem around the game is forming and solidifying, creating job opportunities for players, marketers, salespeople, artists, and others similar to the NBA. Adding to the legitimacy, many Overwatch teams are owned by high profile entrepreneurs like Mark Cuban, Shaq, Alex Rodriguez, Bob Kraft, Andy Miller, and Mark Ein, who already owned professional sports teams. This year, Washington DC earned a spot in the league with the formation of the Washington Justice.

League of Legends

League of Legends is a 5v5 team-based “MOBA” or Multiplayer Online Battle Arena. The goal of LoL is to work with your teammates to push back the enemy team and capture their base or “Nexus”. LoL is a game of teamwork, strategy, and timing, where all members of the team must work together to push forward effectively. Each role (Top Lane, Bottom Lane, Mid Lane, Carry, and Support) is different and each must communicate and execute their specific objectives to assure the team’s victory.

League of Legends is the most popular esport in the world and with the transition to the franchise model of team ownership and big money coming in from traditional sports owners, it’s future is secure. With superstar power and a blossoming collegiate scene, LoL is set up for years of success and is one of the major scholarship opportunities for up and coming gamers.
