Game Gym Announces Details for The DMV’s Spring Summit 2021

The latest edition of the “Triple Crown” series of online charity events to be held May 14-16, 2021

Spring Summit Online Charity Event | May 14-16

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rockville, MD – April 19, 2021 – Building on the success of the Summer Bash and the Winter Games, Game Gym is pleased to announce the DMV’s Spring Summit as the next jewel in the “Triple Crown,” — a year-round slate of three online charity events benefitting Children’s National Hospital and the Extra Life Foundation.

The DMV’s Spring Summit, to be held May 14-16, 2021, promises to be the biggest and best of the series to date, with more partners to support the event, more thrilling competitions, more prize money, and more great education and entertainment content.

“Here at Game Gym, we are committed to serving the needs of our growing esports community, and our three Triple Crown events are a key part of that effort,” said Josh Hafkin, Founder and CEO of Game Gym. “We are excited to announce all of the new features and programs that we’ve added to the DMV’s Spring Summit 2021.”

Each Triple Crown event occurs over a long weekend, starting on Friday and concluding on Sunday, and each event includes a range of educational and entertainment content each afternoon geared to kids, parents, and gamers of all ages, plus a series of tournaments each evening in different video games with cash and other prizes.

For the first time, all of the end of the season competitions for the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference (MAEC) will be held at the Spring Summit. The MAEC is a collegiate esports conference for colleges and universities in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC that was co-Founded by Events DC and Game Gym. The MAEC’s inaugural spring season includes competitions in Rocket League, Overwatch, and League of Legends, all culminating at the Spring Summit. The Spring Summit will continue to host the District Esports League end of season championship tournaments in Rocket League and Super Smash Bros.

“Events DC is pleased to continue our partnership with Game Gym as the presenting sponsor of the DMV’s Spring Summit 2021,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Events DC. “The Triple Crown series of online charity events is a compelling platform for supporting esports education and competition in the Washington, DC region and beyond.”

Also in conjunction with The DMV’s Spring Summit 2021, Events DC, Game Gym, and the MAEC will sponsor and promote a May 20 virtual career fair presented by the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA). “We are pleased to announce this partnership with Game Gym, Events DC and the Mid-Atlantic Esports Conference,” said Victor Hoskins, president and CEO of the FCEDA. “We believe that college students who love esports are excellent candidates for the large number of high-quality tech jobs in Northern Virginia and throughout the D.C. area, and we are excited to provide a platform to connect those students with potential employers.” Click here to register for the May 20 virtual job fair.

The two Triple Crown events in 2020 – The DMV’s Summer Bash 2020 and The DMV’s Winter Games 2020 — raised more than $17,000.00 total for the Extra Life Foundation. Across the two events, more than 600 gamers competed in seven different tournaments and competitions, with more than $7,000.00 in cash and prizes at stake. Total combined Twitch viewership for the two events topped 6,100 unique viewers. Moving forward, all money raised for the Extra Life Foundation will be used to fund research using videogames to assist in rehabilitation programs for children.
